• Attending live classes with camera on

• Engaging in discussion and classwork

• Completing required assignments

Excused vs Unexcused Absence

✓ Excused: illness, appointments, religious observances, emergencies, court

✗ Unexcused: oversleeping, vacations, not logging in or participating

What happens as Absences Add Up?

• 1 Absence

  Any day your child is absent, you will hear from their advisor via a phone call, a not clears it

• 3 in a row

  A school leader calls; wellness check if we cannot reach you

• 5 total

  Letter home and added attendance support

• 8 total

  SST meeting

• 10 total

  Required by DC law: CFSA referral, ages 5-13

• 15 total

  Required by DC law: referral to the OAG and truancy court, ages 14-17

How the points work:

• Students earn points in every class for meeting the rules

• Points are redeemed in the SPARKS Store: school spirit gear, prizes, privileges

• Points unlock special activities and field trips

• Monthly SPARKS Awards and Student of the Month

• All students are issued a Chromebook and charger

  • If any enrollment changes occur, devices must be returned to KIPP DC Innovate Academy.

  • We understand that accidents happen and happily replace a defective Chromebook. However, excessive (3+) replacements for damage caused by students will require a contract and/or fee.
